What is the mission of the Bren Herrera Foundation?

The Bren Herrera Foundation is committed to serving disenfranchised, marginalized, and underrepresented communities in Washington, DC. Our mission is to provide support through impactful programs that address the immediate and long-term needs of those we serve, focusing on food, education, and community empowerment.

We just hosted our inaugural fundraiser event, which celebrated the foundation’s launch. Moving forward, our goal is to host two annual fundraising events — one in Spring and one in the Fall — to support our growing initiatives and programs. Stay tuned to our website and social media for specific dates and details about how to participate.

One of our cornerstone programs is Bren + Friends Serve DC, an annual holiday service-based program. During this initiative, we go out into the community to serve up to 1,700 hot meals to those in need, ensuring they experience comfort and dignity during the holiday season.

We are gearing up to launch two new signature programs per year until we reach a total of 10 programs. The nature of these programs will include:

  • Food and cooking courses (online and in-person)
  • Community consultations
  • Programming for young mothers and children
  • Scholarships
  • Other services addressing emerging community needs

While food is at the cornerstone of our service, our ultimate goal is to offer general services in education, arts, and language to create holistic and sustainable impacts.

Absolutely! We welcome volunteers to join us in making the holidays brighter for the DC community. Sign-up opportunities are typically announced in advance of the holiday season.  If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up via this Google Doc.
